On October 15, Wizards of the Coast said it would not voluntarily recognize union efforts among its Dungeons & Dragons and Studio X teams, sending the question to the National Labor Relations Board for a secret ballot, according to Wargamer’s report. Studio X includes most of Magic’s creative staff, and workers announced their UWOTC-CWA campaign on October 6. The union formed in June from Arena developers, whose own recognition fight ended in an 83% vote for unionization. Its platform calls for fair wages and career progression, sustainable workloads, healthcare access, protection against AI encroachment, and ownership of employees’ unrelated work.
